A MAN and a child are reported to have died after a light aircraft landed on a beach in Lisbon, Portugal, this afternoon.
Local media outlets are reporting that hundreds of sunbathers were on the beach at Caparica, 30 kilometres south of Lisbon, when the crash occurred. Some reportedly ran into the sea to avoid the plane.
The small aircraft carrying two people appeared to be in difficulty and wobbled as it flew low over the sunbathers.
The deceased girl was with her parents, who were unhurt, the witnesses told local television channels. The plane passed over the other victim’s legs as he sunbathed on a towel, they said. No others were reportedly hurt.
Emergency services could not immediately be reached for comment.
The two occupants of the plane were led away by police.
